The Indigenous Death Doula Collective project will conclude in March 2025.
It has been four wonderful years of connecting with communities and awakening death workers. |
We thank you for your patience as we begin this transition and several others.
Your input, time and engagement are greatly appreciated as we adapt our operations to ensure longevity and strength in our service delivery and community care.

Even though our grant has concluded, strides are being made to establish bodies of membership to establish professional standards for Indigenous Helpers and for non Indigenous Helpers who have invested time and critical thought into allyship.
Coming Soon!
From January 2019-March 2025, the work of the Indigenous Death Doula Collective has gained momentum in providing services to support First Nations, Inuit, and Metis community members coping with death, dying, grief and loss.
This initiative expanded steadily to the degree that forming a nonprofit organization has become necessary.

Services and programs like free training, support groups, one-on-one healing services and educational resources have become essential
to empowering and awakening community helpers.

In our planning, the IDDC team participated in 2022 with the Land Education Dreambook, organized by the Tkaronto CIRCLE Lab and our planning created
the original Theory of Change.

From this Theory of Change, we were able to move forward with clarity in forming the vision for Birchbark Medicine Lodge Society.

the how & the why
The Collectives
By creating these membership bodies the Indigenous Death Worker Collective can begin to build up resources to fund a support network of qualified individuals who are safe, vetted and trusted.
Over and over again we hear stories of preventable death,
off tragedies stemming from racism
and systems that will never prevent Indigenous death.
We call on the beautiful helpers who have awakened in these times.
We gather in care and connection,
seeking ways to build bridges
and save a life.

Through these membership bodies and partnerships, we will create the safety network we wish to see in every single community, across Turtle Island.
