About Chrystal

Chrystal Toop is a mixed-identity woman of Anishinabe, French, and Kashubian heritage. A proud member of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation through her matrilineal line, she resides in unceded Algonquin Territory and travels across the country to connect with community helpers and caregivers.
Since 2001, Chrystal has captivated audiences throughout North America with her powerful storytelling abilities, leaving a lasting impression on groups of all sizes, from educational classrooms and public institutions to professional organizations and social justice events. |
A Registered Social Services Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Chrystal has a Diploma in Indigenous Healing and Wellness Counselling, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and numerous certifications and college certificates. Dedicated to life-long learning, Chrystal is presently engrossed in land-based healing methods and plant medicines that support end-of-life care, trauma recovery and wellness.

In 2022, Blackbird Medicines was able to participate in the
Landbased Education Incubator program. In addition to contributing to the Land Education Dreambook, organized by the Tkaronto CIRCLE Lab, Blackbird Medicines' Theory of Change model was created. Miigwetch to Author Pia Araneta for including Blackbird Medicines in her Chatelaine article "What Does It Mean To Die Well?"
